A number of companies and other establishments currently taking part in a Dar tal-Providenza Fund Raising scheme were recently presented with a Participation Certificate in a short ceremony held at the Siggiewi Homes. The occasion also served to thank the employees of these establishments for their support as well as to show appreciation to their management for facilitating the scheme.
At the same time Id-Dar tal-Providenza, the Residential Home for Persons with Disabilities, took the opportunity to renew its appeal to all employees in Malta and Gozo to support its fund-raising efforts by pledging 25 euro cents each week from their wages. The amount will be then be passed on to specific fund-raising accounts of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. This fund-raising initiative was introduced in October 2005 by Mons Lawrence Gatt, the previous Homes Director.
According to Louis Schembri, administrator of the fund-raising scheme,”we are very conscious of the fact that employees are already being asked to make various contributions for different causes, and it is for this reason that we have to be careful not to increase this burden. Twenty-five Euro cents per week is such a relatively insignificant amount that we are confident that the majority of employees would support the scheme. For us 25 Euro cents each week over a long period and from a substantial number of employees can make a big difference,” concluded Mr Schembri.
“Throughout all these years we have managed to make ends meet thanks to our many friends and benefactors,” said Fr Martin Micallef, the Director at Id-Dar tal-Providenza. “It is for this reason that we renewing our heartfelt appeal to employees in Malta and Gozo, so that they too can become a link in this chain of friendship. Through their support they will help us to continue improving the well-being and quality of life of our residents.”
Id-Dar tal-Providenza was founded in 1965 by Mons Mikiel Azzopardi and today supports over 100 persons with different needs. This service is provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week by a dedicated team of more than 200 staff members as well as a number of volunteers. Moreover the Homes provide a respite care service to more than 60 families enabling them to take a break from the daily routine and stress of caring for their disabled persons at home.
