December's producer price index up 3% on previous monthProvisional data indicates that in December, the producer price index for total industry increased by 3.0 per cent when compared to the previous month. This rise was reflected in a 5.9 and 0.1 per cent increase in prices for intermediate and capital goods respectively. Energy and consumer goods prices remained stable.

During the month, the total index of prices for the domestic market remained stable, although prices for capital and consumer goods for this market rose by 4.9 and 0.1 per cent respectively. Furthermore, no price changes were recorded for the intermediate goods and energy sectors.

Overall, producer prices in the non-domestic market advanced by 5.2 per cent in view of a rise of 6.4 per cent in the intermediate goods sector. On the other hand, a decrease of 0.1 per cent was registered in the capital goods sector. No change was recorded for consumer goods.

Producer prices in respect of goods destined for the euro area rose by 5.9 per cent, resulting mainly from an increase of 7.1 per cent in prices for intermediate goods. This was marginally offset by a decline in prices of capital goods of 0.1 per cent.

Prices for goods destined for the non-euro area remaind stable in all sectors.

Year-on-year, producer prices for total industry declined by 3.9 per cent. During this period, producer prices for intermediate goods dropped by 7.8 per cent. Conversley, prices for energy, capital and consumer goods went up by 0.2, 0.1 and 1.5 per cent respectively.

Producer prices within the domestic market went up by 0.7 per cent. This was due to price increases for intermediate goods, energy, capital and consumer goods, which experienced price gains of 2.7, 0.2, 2.2 and 1.6 per cent respectively.

During this period, producer prices for goods destined for the non-domestic market decreased by 6.9 per cent on account of a drop in prices in the euro area of 8.0 per cent. This was partly mitigated by an increase of 2.8 per cent in prices for goods destined for the non-euro area.
